Cancer patients with oral mucositis

Oral mucositis (OM) is an acute inflammation and ulceration of the surface of the mouth and throat, which could be seen as a significant problem when patients receiving chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. Approximately 40% of patients with high dose chemotherapy and 75% of patients receiving high dose chemotherapy stem cell transplantation may experience some degree of mucositis. Meanwhile in almost all of patients receiving radiotherapy to the head and neck will experience mucositis. It is also a common complication in people with a poor immune system, like HIV patients. It can be an intensely painful condition that can limit swallowing and adequate nutritional intake, which may be necessary for patients to receive intravenous drip or enteral nutrition. In some cases the severity of oral mucositis may result in patients' cancer therapy being deferred or interrupted.

Bio-adherent oral rinse dressing

MuAid is a bio-adherent oral gel that coats the surface of the mouth forming a thin protective film over painful oral lesions, such as oral mucositis or oral cavity. Damage to the oral mucosa may be a result of oral mucositis due to cancer treatments, surgery or other forms of tissue damage caused by denture, dental brace or other thrush. MuAid is a rinse which coats the surfaces of your mouth forming a protective barrier. This protective barrier shields the exposed and sensitised nerve endings in the mucosa from overstimulation and provides rapid oral pain relief. Therefore, the barrier formed by MuAid can make it less painful for you to eat and drink and can make your mouth feel more comfortable.
